 What We're About
Friends of Charlie’s Place has helped save hundreds of dogs and cats from euthanasia at kill shelters.
Dogs and cats that are now a part of a family and have the love and care they so deserve!

We have helped to make this possible by covering all of the transfer costs and medical care necessary for the dogs and cats that come to Charlie's Place from other shelters.  We also cover the costs for spaying/neutering, heartworm tests, vaccinations, and dental care for all newly transferred animals.  FOCP contributes to the training of animals to help them become more adoptable and offers assistance to citizens by giving them a voucher for our spay/neuter program.
No animal coming into Charlie's Place has ever had to go
without needed medical care, thanks to FOCP.

These are just some of the wonderful "happy beginings" we've had the privilege to be a part of.

Others Success Stories (not pictured)

Blue came to Charlie’s Place as an untrained, energetic puppy.  Volunteers and staff worked with him and he is now a mild mannered adult living in his forever home.  Quite a transformation!

Dora, an elderly cat was treated for jaundice and anorexia and was eventually adopted.

Archer, a young Aussie Shepherd, came to Charlie's Place with two broken legs.  FOCP helped with the medical care he needed to heal.  He is now happily living with his adoptive family.

Robinson came to Charlie's Place as a rescue from a kill shelter after being hit by a car.  He received the follow-up medical care he needed thanks to FOCP.

Spuds, a young abused Pit Bull Terrier, received the training he needed to become adoptable.

Thelma and Louise (surrendered senior dogs) and Frick & Frack (surrendered senior cats) found their forever homes, allowing them to stay together.

Rocky, and Blanca, both senior dogs, were saved from death row.

Arthur a happy, energetic, affectionate 15 year-old male Chihuahua who loves life with his mom and two other rescue dogs. Things weren't looking so good for Arthur back in November, 2016 when his then-owner turned him in to a kill shelter to be euthanized. The staff and rescue partners at that shelter saw something special in Arthur and pleaded for his life to be saved. We posted his story and one of our residents stepped up and took him in. One of Arthur's legs and hips was in very poor condition (possibly as a result of being kicked), his digestion was off, and he needed a dental badly. Arthur's medical needs were taken care of by FOCP and now, more than a year since he arrived at Charlie's Place, he is not just surviving, but thriving. He is a testament to what love and TLC can do for an animal and is an inspiration.

Trucker came to Charlie’s Place via Kati, a community resident.  Kati purchased the dog from a homeless man offering him for sale in Central City.  Because Trucker had been micro-chipped, Charlie’s Place was able to reunite him with his family in Arkansas.  Microchipping helps so many animals get reunited with their people, Charlie’s Place has began to microchip every dog as they come into the shelter.

Taylor and Charmaine, both senior cats that came to Charlien's Place in a severely emaciated condition.  FOCP helped pay for their medical care and the cost of restoring their health.

Miriam, a German Shepherd found abandoned in Georgetown, with a serious kidney malfunction received much needed care thanks to FOCP.

Taneka and Glacier, two senior Husky mixes with limited range of motion in their hips received the medical care they needed and are doing well in their caring forever homes.
